How I Use AI Tools to Automate 50% of My Online Work (Without Losing the Human Touch)
I didn’t wake up one day and suddenly become an AI productivity guru. Truth is, I stumbled into this world of automation almost by accident. Back in 2022, I was juggling freelance writing, blogging, affiliate marketing, and the endless admin tasks that come with running an online business. Burnout? Oh yeah, I met that guy more than once.
At first, I was skeptical about AI. I thought it was all hype. Chatbots? Meh. Generators? Maybe for lazy people. I was wrong. Dead wrong. Once I gave it a fair try, I realized AI wasn’t replacing me—it was amplifying me. Big difference.
How It Started: A Frustrated Freelancer & Overwhelmed Blogger
There was a week where I had 3 client deadlines, a blog post due, and two affiliate emails to schedule. I remember staring at my screen thinking, “There has to be a better way.” That’s when I started playing around with ChatGPT just to brainstorm ideas. That little session turned into a game-changer for me.
Instead of writing full pieces, I started using AI to:
- Outline articles (hello, structure!)
- Rewrite and polish product descriptions
- Generate headline ideas that don’t sound like a robot
I still write my content manually, but AI became my thought partner. It’s like having a quiet assistant who doesn’t need coffee or sleep.
The Tools I Use Daily
Here’s my AI stack today:
- ChatGPT – for content brainstorming, rewriting, and email drafts
- Grammarly – not just for spelling, but tone and clarity fixes too
- Notion AI – for managing blog ideas, outlines, and research in one place
- Canva AI – it now suggests layout designs and even helps with copy
I also use tools like Copy.ai occasionally, especially for writing quick ad copy. But honestly, I rotate tools based on what I’m working on. I even tested Jasper for long-form posts and found it useful when I hit a mental block.
What AI Does NOT Replace
This part matters.
No AI tool has replaced my voice. Or my weird sense of humor. Or the way I structure stories. And I never let it fully write anything I care about—like this article. It drafts, suggests, even inspires, but the final touch is mine.
Also, no AI tool can replace the relationship-building that makes affiliate marketing work. You can read my raw story on that here: How I Started Affiliate Marketing with Zero Followers.
My Routine: Blending Human & Machine
Here’s a typical workday for me now:
- 8:00 AM – Review to-do list, open Notion AI to track blog/article status
- 9:00 AM – Use ChatGPT for outlining or revising yesterday’s drafts
- 10:30 AM – Write manually, but get Grammarly suggestions as I go
- 1:00 PM – Create visuals using Canva AI, schedule via Buffer
That’s it. Not crazy automated. Not cold. Just efficient.
Would I Recommend This?
Absolutely. But slowly.
If you try to replace your whole workflow with AI overnight, it’ll backfire. Instead, find the parts of your day that feel repetitive, and test AI there. For me, it started with content outlining. For you, it might be social media planning or idea generation.
Final Thoughts
I don’t believe in “let the robots take over.” I believe in harmony. When used wisely, AI makes me feel more human—not less. I spend less time typing and more time thinking, creating, and even relaxing (a forgotten skill in this hustle culture).
